Great That Desert, Rajasthan, India

A camel driver that I photographed in the Great Thar Desert in western Rajasthan, India. The desert is a great place to spend the night sleeping under the stars. Absolutely quiet except for nature and as many stars as you wish to see.

Camel Traders of Rajasthan

April 9, 2013  -  Festivals

I love attending festivals in India. They are always so full of color and are the perfect place for photography. In 2011 I attended the Pushkar Camel Fair. It takes place yearly around November in the small holy town of Pushkar in Rajasthan, India. The fair has been taking place for centuries though in recent years it is becoming more and more an event filled with lots of tourist. I can’t really complain as I am one of those tourist as well. It was a great event to photograph though I must say after a while it got a little annoying as there were many quite unprofessional photographers present that were simply running around with their cameras shooting everything and anything and being quite disrespectful to the locals in many ways. It’s a double edge sword. Tourism helps the local economy but at the same time it can be a real pain in the butt.

Moving on from that. The camel traders were great to photograph. Many of them did not mind being photographed as long as you were respectful and did not stick your lens in their face without permission. Here are some images from that trip.

Scenes from Rajasthan, India

February 15, 2013  -  People

Here are some photos that I’ve taken on the last days of our spiritual and photographic adventure as we make our way across Rajasthan, India. Rajasthan is by far my favorite place to photograph in India though I have yet to explore places like Nagaland and other more remote parts. But Rajasthan with brown desert background and bright fabrics everywhere is a heaven for photographers.
